A recent assessment in Uganda indicates a significant disparity in access to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) within the secondary education system. The study found that only 20 percent of secondary schools meet the minimum requirements to be considered ICT-ready. This means a substantial majority – over 80 percent – currently lack functioning computer laboratories and the necessary infrastructure. The findings highlight a considerable digital divide, hindering the integration of technology into learning environments across the country. The report underscores challenges in equipping schools with essential ICT resources. This lack of access potentially disadvantages students and limits opportunities for digital literacy development. Further investment and focused initiatives are needed to bridge this gap and ensure equitable access to technology in Ugandan schools.
