A petition is underway in Mongolia, initiated by Dr. J. Amarsanaa, to support the drafting of a law regulating the use of trans fats. Research demonstrates a link between industrial trans fats and increased risks of cardiovascular disease, obesity, diabetes, and other non-communicable illnesses, prompting many countries to implement legal restrictions. The proposed “Trans Fat Control Law” aims to control trans fat content in food products, improve labeling, refine import regulations, and ensure accurate public information. Dr. Amarsanaa explains that trans fats are synthetically produced by adding hydrogen to vegetable oils, accumulating in the body and contributing to health problems, unlike natural oils. Currently, over 7,000 signatures have been collected, with a goal of reaching 100,000 to present the petition to Parliament. Healthcare professionals, students, NGOs, and concerned citizens are encouraged to volunteer and support this public health initiative, framed as a citizen-led movement for national well-being.
