School principals in the Philippines are increasingly taking on roles beyond education, actively managing building repairs and flood mitigation due to frequent disasters. Many schools in flood-prone areas require principals to dedicate significant time and resources to infrastructure issues. The Department of Education (DepEd) recognizes the need for elevated school building designs to combat flooding. However, Secretary Sonny Angara has stated that a nationwide implementation of this solution is currently financially unfeasible. Principals are therefore forced to improvise and seek funding independently to address campus flooding. This situation highlights a gap in infrastructure support for schools vulnerable to climate change impacts. The reliance on principals underscores the urgent need for sustainable, large-scale solutions.
