Sartaj Singh Gandhi, a seventh-grade student in India, has created a device capable of detecting spoiled meat. The device functions by monitoring the levels of ammonia gas released as meat decays. Gandhi’s research, conducted with turkey, chicken, pork, and beef, showed peak ammonia levels emerged on the sixth day of testing. This innovative sensor promises to improve food safety by identifying compromised meat products. Currently focused on meats, Gandhi intends to expand the sensor's functionality to assess the freshness of other food items. Despite his engineering prowess, the young inventor aspires to a career in cardiothoracic surgery.
