The regional UNESCO office for Central Africa will host a workshop on October 13, 2026, dedicated to preserving disappearing culinary traditions within the CEMAC zone. Organized by the Chain of Restaurateurs for the Promotion of Cameroonian Culinary Heritage (CRESPAC), the meeting will bring together heritage experts, representatives from the FAO, and Cameroonian ministries. The initiative aims to safeguard a vital part of Central Africa’s cultural identity, focusing on threatened cooking skills, methods, and flavors. UNESCO is working to preserve and transmit knowledge, practices, and traditions, as outlined in the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Faced with food standardization and rapid urbanization, ancestral recipes and conservation techniques are at risk of being lost. The workshop will focus on urgent safeguarding, intergenerational transmission, and leveraging this culinary heritage for cultural identity and sustainable development, aiming to boost pride, tourism, and cultural resilience in Cameroon.
