The extension of the regional express train (TER) to Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) in Senegal is facing backlash from local communities and airport personnel. The Collective for the Defense of Interests of the commune of Keur Moussa criticizes the fares as excessive, the schedule as poorly aligned with flight traffic, and the lack of sufficient onward travel solutions for passengers. They argue the TER doesn’t fully address mobility needs around AIBD, especially given the train’s limited operating hours until 10 PM, conflicting with significant flight arrivals between 10 PM and 3 AM. Workers at AIBD, numbering over 2,000, also find the 4,000 FCFA fare too high for regular commuting. Residents of neighboring communes like Keur Moussa, Diass, Sindia and Nguékhoh face additional costs – up to 2,000 FCFA – for secondary transport like informal taxis ("clandos") and “thiak-thiak” to reach their final destinations from the AIBD station. Concerns also exist regarding internal transportation within the airport platform itself.
