Food delivery apps Thuisbezorgd and Uber Eats in the Netherlands will compensate millions of customers due to deceptive practices regarding fees and discounts. The companies were found to have concealed additional costs and falsely advertised discounts, misleading consumers about the true price of their orders. A settlement reached with the Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM) requires the apps to refund customers and clearly display all fees upfront. The ACM investigated following complaints about hidden delivery, service, and processing charges. Both Thuisbezorgd and Uber Eats admitted to violating consumer protection laws, and the ACM has imposed conditions to ensure greater transparency in the future. Customers who placed orders between 2020 and 2023 are eligible for compensation, with the total payout expected to reach several million euros.
