Turkey’s production of traditional dairy products—ayran, kefir, and yogurt—reached unprecedented levels in the first four months of 2024. Combined ayran and kefir output totaled 338,512 tons during January-April, marking a new high for the country. Yogurt production also surged, reaching 470,828 tons over the same period, similarly setting a record. These figures indicate a significant increase in demand or production capacity within Turkey’s dairy sector. Industry analysts suggest factors such as rising domestic consumption and potentially increased exports contributed to the growth. The record production levels demonstrate the continued importance of these traditional fermented milk products in the Turkish diet and economy. Further analysis is expected to determine the sustainability of this trend throughout the year.
