For twenty years, Taiwan has maintained a presence at the Festival Off d’Avignon, utilizing cultural exchange as a form of soft power. However, a recent analysis reveals this presence is shaped by complex factors beyond artistic merit. Language barriers, established institutional practices within the festival, and the selection process itself all influence how Taiwanese artists present their work to an international audience.
