A traditional palm sugar from Harirampur, Manikganj, Bangladesh, known as “Hazari Gur,” is gaining recognition for its unique quality and production method. Crafted by hand from date palm sap over nearly two centuries, the sugar is distinguished by its granular texture when pressed. Demand for Hazari Gur extends beyond national borders, contributing to the district’s branding as the home of “Hazari Gur and Baul Music – the true spirit of Manikganj.” The sugar currently sells for 2,000 taka per kilogram, reflecting its artisanal nature and high demand. This specialty product is bolstering the local economy and preserving a cultural heritage. Its unique characteristics and growing reputation are positioning it as a premium product within Bangladesh and internationally.
