Mongolian labor unions held a press conference to protest proposed amendments to the social insurance law. Union leaders, including J. Mongonshagai of the Erdenet Factory Union, strongly criticized the planned increase in the retirement age by three months, arguing it unfairly targets workers in hazardous and difficult conditions. Concerns were raised that the changes effectively aim to keep these workers employed until they are unable to continue, amounting to “killing them at their workplace.” Unions also condemned the shift from a five-year to a ten-year average for pension calculations, claiming it will significantly reduce benefits and unfairly benefit the Social Insurance Fund. Furthermore, the removal of special pension provisions for emergency workers was deemed illegal. The unions accuse the government of prioritizing fund stability over the well-being of workers and violating their rights.
