A new survey reveals a significant decline in career satisfaction among young researchers in Norway. Only one in four would recommend a research career, a sharp drop from 53% in 2018 to a projected 27% in 2026. The study, conducted by the Academy of Young Researchers and the Norwegian Research Council, highlights job insecurity as the primary concern. Almost half of the nearly 1000 researchers under 45 who participated are currently employed on temporary contracts. This lack of job security and limited long-term prospects is driving down enthusiasm for the profession. The findings raise concerns about the future of research in Norway and its ability to attract and retain talent.
