The Cactus Garden of Lanzarote originated from a disused rofera, a quarry previously used to extract volcanic sand for local farming. This site represents the final major work of artist César Manrique. Transformed from an abandoned industrial space, the garden now stands as a significant cultural asset. The garden’s creation involved repurposing the existing landscape, highlighting Manrique’s commitment to integrating art with the natural environment. It has been designated as a Bien de Interés Cultural, recognizing its artistic and historical importance. The garden showcases a unique collection of cacti within a striking volcanic setting, attracting visitors and preserving a piece of Lanzarote’s heritage.
