The High Court of Kampala has ruled in favor of two traders in a dispute over the redevelopment of lock-up shops in the New Taxi Park. Judge Stephen Mubiru found the New Park Lockup Owners Association liable for breaching its own resolutions and failing in its fiduciary duties to its members. The court ordered the association to pay over 1.26 billion Ugandan Shillings (approximately $340,000 USD) in damages to the traders. The case centered on alleged violations during the park’s redevelopment process. The judge determined the association acted improperly, leading to financial harm for the plaintiffs. This ruling highlights concerns regarding transparency and accountability in redevelopment projects involving collective ownership. The decision aims to compensate the traders for losses incurred due to the association’s actions.
