Peruvian consumer protection agency, Indecopi, has sanctioned Interbank with a fine exceeding 400,000 Peruvian Soles (over $100,000 USD) for employing aggressive marketing tactics. The ruling stems from numerous complaints regarding unsolicited phone calls offering bank products and services. Indecopi determined Interbank failed to obtain prior authorization from customers before initiating these communications, violating consumer rights. Specifically, the agency cited the bank’s use of “aggressive commercial methods.” This decision underscores Indecopi’s commitment to safeguarding consumers from unwanted and intrusive marketing practices. The penalty aims to discourage similar behavior from other financial institutions in Peru. Interbank has the right to appeal the decision.
