A psychologist from the Institute of Psychology of the Czech Academy of Sciences reports that high temperatures negatively impact brain function and emotional regulation. Reduced blood flow to the brain leads to decreased cognitive performance and lower productivity. The heat also lowers levels of serotonin and dopamine, neurotransmitters associated with positive mood. This biochemical shift results in difficulty recognizing emotions, with neutral expressions potentially misinterpreted as aggression. Consequently, individuals are more prone to conflict and outbursts. Experts recommend scheduling mentally demanding tasks for cooler times of day and prioritizing hydration to mitigate these effects, as well as addressing sleep disturbances caused by heat.
