The Ghana Education Service (GES) is facing calls to fully implement its new information management system, GESIMS, and abandon outdated administrative processes. Launched in 2024 under the leadership of former Director General Dr. Eric Nkansah and former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, GESIMS aimed to modernize education administration. Despite investment in the platform’s development, many key functions continue to rely on manual, paper-based procedures. This situation is causing frustration, delays, and increased costs for teachers and administrators nationwide. Critics argue the continued reliance on these older methods undermines the GES’s stated goals of digital transformation. Full activation of GESIMS is seen as crucial for improving efficiency and transparency within the education sector. The current state represents a disconnect between stated objectives and practical implementation.
