The Punjab government has imposed an immediate ban on the use and sale of camera-enabled smart glasses and miniature cameras disguised as common items throughout the Punjab province. The order, issued by the Home Department under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, cites concerns over public order, individual privacy, and national security. Specifically, officials fear these devices could compromise the safety of women and children, sensitive data, and critical infrastructure. Exemptions have been made for laptops, tablets, mobile phones, and devices approved by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). Retailers are prohibited from selling these items both online and in stores. Airports, examination centres, government buildings, healthcare facilities, shopping malls, and courts are identified as locations particularly at risk. The ban will remain in effect for 30 days.
