The Volkswagen factory in Osnabrück, Germany, has been acquired by the Israeli investment firm Aurelius, specializing in defense and cybersecurity. Aurelius has partnered with the manufacturer of the Iron Dome, an Israeli air defense system, to produce defense systems for Europe at the German facility. This acquisition comes as Volkswagen faces significant challenges, recently announcing 50,000 job losses and potential closures of four factories. The deal secures the future of at least one of those plants, safeguarding approximately 1400 of the 1800 jobs at the Osnabrück location in Lower Saxony. While specific changes within the factory are currently unknown, Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume emphasized the importance of the acquisition for the region's industrial future, highlighting the expertise and dedication of the Osnabrück workforce. This represents a new, as yet undefined, direction for the plant.
