In 1990, Utah embarked on a large-scale ecological restoration project at Strawberry Reservoir, employing a controversial yet effective method: nearly complete fish removal using rotenone. The aim was to reverse environmental decline and revitalize the lake's ecosystem. Following the chemical treatment, native trout were reintroduced to rebuild a healthy food web and bolster recreational fishing opportunities. Today, enhanced barriers and regulations are in place to protect this renewed aquatic environment.
