The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has cautioned that escalating conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran is driving a worsening energy crisis in Asia. ADB President Masato Kanda stated that rising energy prices, shipping costs, and input costs are already being observed. He specifically highlighted concerns about potential fertilizer shortages, which would likely increase food prices and exacerbate inflationary pressures across the region. The ADB warns this scenario represents a significant setback for economic development in Asia. Kanda emphasized the interconnectedness of global events and their impact on the continent’s economic stability. The bank is monitoring the situation closely and assessing potential mitigation strategies, but stresses the urgency of de-escalation. These developments pose a substantial risk to Asia’s economic outlook.
