Fourteen months of trade negotiations between the U.S. and Canada have yielded little significant progress, according to U.S. envoy Pete Hoekstra. Despite the lack of substantial resolutions, Hoekstra affirmed the U.S. remains committed to continuing discussions with Canada. The talks primarily focus on the future of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), previously known as NAFTA. Outstanding issues remain unresolved, hindering a comprehensive agreement. However, the U.S. maintains optimism for eventually reaching a settlement. Both countries express a continued desire to find common ground and address trade concerns. Further negotiations are expected as the U.S. seeks modifications to the existing trade framework.
