Over 9,300 crore rupees (approximately $1.1 billion USD) remains unclaimed in over 3.1 million Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) accounts across India. This substantial sum represents funds accumulated over time by workers who have either changed jobs or retired without filing claims. Authorities indicate the amount is sufficient to finance the construction of three Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), highlighting a significant potential for infrastructure investment. The EPF Organization is working to raise awareness and simplify the claim process to reunite individuals with their savings. Reasons for unclaimed funds include lack of awareness, incorrect or outdated contact details, and complex withdrawal procedures. Officials urge eligible individuals to check their EPF balances and initiate claims promptly to access their rightful benefits and contribute to national development. Improved digital accessibility is also being pursued to streamline the process further.
