Ulaanbaatar city officials have announced plans to proceed with a 12.9-kilometer Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system along a key corridor. The project, encompassing 19 stations, aims to improve public transportation speed and accessibility. The BRT route will utilize the third lane of existing roadways, minimizing disruption to existing traffic flow at intersections. Funding and oversight are provided by the Asian Development Bank, with a tender process already underway for detailed design and implementation planning. Land acquisition and resettlement plans are being developed in accordance with ADB requirements. A key feature of the BRT is level boarding, designed to improve access for people with disabilities, seniors, and families with strollers. Officials anticipate the BRT will increase bus speeds four to five times, reaching an average of 20-25 km/h, with project completion targeted between 2025 and 2030.
