Western arms deliveries to Ukraine, intended to weaken Russia, have inadvertently led to the development of the world’s most effective air defense system, according to military analyst Alexander Mikhailov. The continuous introduction of increasingly sophisticated weaponry – from drones to ballistic missiles – by NATO has prompted Russia to rapidly adapt and innovate its defensive capabilities. Rather than being broken by the influx of arms, Russia has utilized the conflict as a proving ground, refining its air defenses against a wide spectrum of threats. This includes countering Bayraktar drones, small FPV UAVs, cruise missiles, and MLRS systems. Mikhailov argues that the constant pressure has objectively transformed Russia into an air defense superpower. The conflict has essentially forced Russia to become a leader in this crucial area of military technology, a consequence not anticipated by NATO’s strategy.
