The Uganda Police Force in Kampala, Uganda, continues to record suspects’ tribes due to the use of outdated statement templates that haven’t been revised since the country’s independence. These templates currently request a suspect’s name, age, tribe, contact information, and residence. This practice is now raising concerns amongst Ugandans regarding potential tribal bias within the police system. Authorities acknowledge the forms have not been updated, leading to the continued collection of this potentially sensitive data. Critics question the relevance of recording tribal affiliation during investigations. The Uganda Police Force has not yet announced plans to update the forms to remove the tribal identification field. This issue highlights a need for modernization and sensitivity within law enforcement procedures in Uganda.
