Two young children were found dead in a car in Carpentras, southeastern France, on Monday. While the official cause of death has not yet been determined, local prosecutors state that the ongoing heatwave is the primary lead in the investigation. The children were discovered inside a vehicle parked in their family's home garage. Temperatures in the area were expected to reach 39 degrees Celsius. France is currently among several Southern European countries struggling with extreme heat, with some regions expecting temperatures up to 44 degrees. The heatwave has already proven fatal elsewhere in the country, with at least three elderly people dying in Gironde.
