Tunisia's newly established Higher Education Council (CSE), as outlined in the 2022 Constitution’s Article 135, was intended to depoliticize educational policy. The goal was to establish long-term strategies based on expertise and evaluation, rather than short-term political considerations. However, concerns are emerging that the CSE may be subject to concentrated power, potentially undermining its intended independence. The creation of the council aimed to provide stability and a forward-thinking vision for the Tunisian education system. This shift in structure seeks to move away from ad-hoc decision-making concerning education. The initial promise of expert-driven reform is now being questioned as centralization looms. Further developments will indicate whether the CSE can truly operate as an autonomous body.
