Lecturers at The Hague University of Applied Sciences have raised concerns regarding a toxic work environment, citing intimidation, bullying, and abuse of power. Over one hundred complaints have been filed with the school's Ombudsman over the past two years, prompting an investigation by the Labour Inspectorate. Staff, particularly older and international colleagues, report feeling pressured at all organizational levels. Union leaders describe an environment of fear, with employees hesitant to voice concerns to management due to fear of retaliation. The university confirms the Labour Inspectorate’s findings and states it has taken action to address the risk of inappropriate behavior, with 48 reports filed in 2023 and 57 in 2024. While acknowledging the issues, the university maintains it is taking steps toward improvement, however staff express feeling distressed by the situation.
