Spanish company Talgo has submitted a bid to supply Portugal with its first high-speed trains. These trains are designed with a unique dual-gauge capability, allowing them to operate on both the Iberian gauge, commonly used in Spain and Portugal, and the international standard gauge. This feature is crucial for seamless connections between Portugal and the rest of Europe. The proposal is part of a competition for Portugal’s high-speed rail infrastructure development. Talgo's offering aims to overcome existing interoperability challenges within the Portuguese railway network and facilitate cross-border travel. The trains are intended to enhance Portugal’s connectivity and boost its high-speed rail capabilities. This initiative marks a significant step towards modernizing rail transport in Portugal.
