South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (식약처) will intensify its monitoring of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) medication misuse as the College Scholastic Ability Test (대학수학능력시험/Su-neung) approaches. The agency is responding to the false perception of these medications as “study drugs” and concerns about their illegal distribution and consumption among students. The inspection will focus on medical institutions, pharmacies in Seoul and nationwide, to prevent the inappropriate prescribing and dispensing of ADHD medication. Authorities aim to curb the non-medical use of these drugs, which can pose serious health risks. The Food and Drug Safety Ministry warns against self-medication and encourages legitimate prescriptions based on appropriate medical evaluation. They are working to ensure fair exam conditions and protect student health during this stressful period.
