Hungarian border authorities at Röszke discovered a large shipment of smuggled cigarettes concealed within furniture. During a search, officials disassembled a sofa and found 168,000 cigarettes bearing Kosovar tax stamps. The cigarettes were intended for illegal sale, evading import duties and regulations. The discovery highlights ongoing efforts to combat cross-border smuggling. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the origin and intended destination of the contraband. This seizure represents a significant disruption to illicit trade activities in the region. The method of concealment – inside furniture – indicates a sophisticated attempt to bypass border controls.
