Slovakia is experiencing a faster rate of population aging compared to most European nations. Demographic forecasts indicate the country has transitioned from one of the youngest in Europe to among the oldest within two generations. According to demographer Boris Vaňo, the proportion of seniors is projected to exceed 30% of the population between 2050 and 2060. This represents more than a doubling of the senior population share compared to recent decades. Vaňo, who has studied demographics since the 1980s, bases these projections on current trends. The aging trend presents potential challenges for the country’s social and economic systems. These changes will likely necessitate adjustments to healthcare, pensions, and social services.
