Luka Čaušić, head of the Ministry of Interior’s Emergency Situations Sector, acknowledged that authorities may have inadvertently created inflated public expectations regarding disaster response. He stated citizens have become accustomed to swift resolutions of emergencies, with fires extinguished within hours or days. This comment came alongside news of increased aerial firefighting capacity with the arrival of additional helicopters. Čaušić's remarks suggest a potential shift in approach to managing public perception and response times during crises. He implied that consistently rapid responses may have led citizens to underestimate the complexity and challenges inherent in emergency situations. The addition of five helicopters – three from the Ministry and two others – will bolster firefighting capabilities. This upgrade aims to prepare authorities for potential challenges while potentially recalibrating public expectations.
