Ukrainian sources report a growing use of a new Russian weapon dubbed "Banderol" in attacks, particularly targeting Odesa. These missiles, estimated to cost around US$100,000 each, are being employed in what is described as “missile spam” – large, saturating volleys designed to overwhelm Ukrainian air defenses. While the Ukrainian Air Force successfully intercepts many of these missiles, some are penetrating defenses and causing damage. A recent attack on August 9th involved eleven "Banderol" missiles alongside Kh-59 cruise missiles. This new tactic highlights a shift in Russian strategy, focusing on volume rather than precision, and contributing to ongoing terror in the region. The increased frequency of "Banderol" usage is raising concerns among defense analysts.
