A large fireworks show will take place near the Erasmusbrug in Rotterdam this New Year's Eve, despite plans for a drone and laser show. The new city administration initially favored a drone and laser display as a more environmentally friendly alternative, but found it impossible to organize in time. Additionally, the project exceeded the allocated budget. While a coalition agreement promised annual drone and laser shows at the Erasmusbrug, practical limitations have led to this year’s exception. The city will spend approximately €816,194 on the fireworks — €300,000 over budget — but can cover the cost due to lower overall city spending this year. Officials aim to implement a more sustainable show starting next year, recognizing the fireworks display as a popular tradition for Rotterdam residents and visitors.
