Despite plans for a drone and laser show, Rotterdam will host a traditional fireworks display at the Erasmusbrug this New Year’s Eve. The new city administration aimed for a more sustainable drone and laser spectacle, as agreed upon in their coalition agreement, allocating 500,000 euros annually for future shows. However, insufficient time and budgetary constraints made this transition impossible for this year's celebration. Councilor Nunnely determined that organizing an alternative show in time wasn’t feasible, and that a drone and laser show exceeded the allocated funds. The city will spend approximately 816,194 euros—over 300,000 euros more than budgeted—but can cover this cost due to anticipated underspending in other areas. The event is seen as a vital alternative to consumer fireworks in anticipation of a national ban in 2026 and a well-attended tradition for locals and visitors alike.
