Romania’s designated Prime Minister Adrian Veștea may need to negotiate with the far-right AUR party to secure enough parliamentary votes for his government to be invested. Liberal Party (PNL) deputy Lucian Bode indicated on Monday that Veștea requires 233 votes for confirmation, a threshold he may not reach without AUR’s backing. Bode suggested potential concessions to AUR could include political positions within the executive branch and regional administrations. These positions could range from state secretaries to prefects, sub-prefects, and heads of various institutions. The possibility of including AUR in the government represents a significant shift in Romanian politics, given the party’s nationalist and Eurosceptic platform. No formal negotiations have begun, but Bode’s statement signals a willingness to consider such a move to ensure a functioning government. The outcome remains uncertain as both parties assess potential benefits and risks.
