A Romanian energy think tank director claims the actual cost of gasoline in Romania represents only about 50% of the final price paid by consumers. Eugenia Gușilov, of the Romania Energy Center (ROEC), stated that the remaining portion is comprised of excise taxes and Value Added Tax (VAT). This indicates a substantial level of taxation on fuel within the country. Gușilov characterized the situation as “outrageous” and “blatant robbery.” The statement was made during an interview with a Romanian newspaper. The ROEC analysis highlights a significant discrepancy between the base fuel cost and the price consumers ultimately pay. This raises questions about the fairness and transparency of fuel pricing in Romania.
