Romania has initiated a nationwide campaign focused on preventing minors from accessing tobacco and nicotine products. The initiative aims to foster responsible sales practices within the industry, addressing public concern over lax enforcement of existing laws. A recent INSCOP Research poll from April 2026 revealed that six out of ten Romanians believe current legislation prohibiting underage access to these products is poorly enforced or ignored. The campaign’s slogan, “Beautiful eyes are no substitute for an ID,” underscores the need for age verification. This effort seeks to cultivate a stronger culture of compliance among retailers and raise awareness about the health risks associated with early tobacco and nicotine use. The campaign responds directly to widespread public perception regarding the ineffectiveness of current preventative measures. It intends to improve adherence to age restrictions and protect vulnerable young people.
