Punjab police and the Crime Control Department (CCD) have admitted to criminal negligence in the shooting death of nine-year-old Hania in Chakwal earlier this month. Officials stated the incident, where a CCD team mistakenly opened fire on a family’s car believing them to be robbers, will not be covered up. The police acknowledged the shooter’s lack of training contributed to the misidentification and subsequent tragedy, which also injured the girl’s father and brother. Both the Punjab Inspector General of Police and the CCD’s Additional Inspector General expressed deep regret and pledged a thorough investigation. They emphasized the importance of acknowledging mistakes to maintain public trust and assured the responsible parties will be prosecuted. The departments also committed to improving training and capacity-building within the CCD to prevent future incidents.
