The Portuguese government projects annual savings of approximately 3.2 million euros through the implementation of a unified social welfare system, known as the Prestação Social Única (PSU). This consolidation will replace 13 separate IT systems currently used to manage social support programs. The new system aims to streamline the administration of benefits and reduce bureaucratic costs. Officials anticipate increased efficiency and reduced redundancy as a result of the change. The PSU is intended to simplify access to social assistance for citizens. The transition to a single management system is expected to improve overall effectiveness of social programs within Portugal. This initiative represents a significant modernization effort for the country’s social welfare infrastructure.
