Poland currently has no plans to reinstate compulsory military conscription, according to Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk. He stated that with approximately 50,000 volunteers joining the armed forces annually, a return to mandatory service is currently unnecessary. Tomczyk emphasized the sufficient number of willing recruits as the primary reason for maintaining the current voluntary system. However, he conceded that a significant shift in circumstances could force a reconsideration of the policy. Specifically, he indicated that if volunteer numbers were to drastically decline, conscription might become unavoidable. This statement leaves open the possibility of future conscription should the geopolitical situation or recruitment rates change. The Deputy Minister’s comments were made during an interview with Wirtualna Polska.
