Ghanaian ocean advocate Abdul Na-eem Muniru warns plastic pollution is escalating beyond visible waste issues to directly impact human health. Muniru, founder of the Ocean Harmony Project, stated that discarded plastics are now being ingested by fish and re-entering the food chain. He highlighted the threat during a recent discussion on JoyNews X, emphasizing the danger to marine ecosystems and food security. The issue extends beyond environmental concerns, posing a direct public health risk as contaminated seafood is consumed. Muniru, also a National Geographic Society Young Explorer, underscored the urgency of addressing Ghana’s plastic pollution crisis. This contamination represents a significant and growing concern for the nation’s population.
