A citizen-led petition seeking to repeal a recent regulation restricting the issuance of new vehicle license plates in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, has gathered significant support. The regulation, implemented in November 2023, introduced criteria limiting the allocation of state license plates. Petition organizer D.Galsantseren argues the regulation infringes upon citizens' property rights and has not demonstrably eased traffic congestion. As of today, over 16,166 people have signed the petition, aiming for 33,000 signatures to trigger parliamentary review. Supporters claim the restrictions have led to license plate shortages, increased car prices, and illicit resale practices. If the petition reaches its goal, a working group will be established in the Mongolian Parliament to discuss the issue.
