The College of Economists of Lima has initiated legal action, filing its first claim of unconstitutionality with the Constitutional Tribunal on July 14th. The challenge focuses on laws concerning pensions for police and military personnel. President José Manuel Mesía Herrera announced the organization is preparing a second, similar legal challenge. This forthcoming action will target regulations related to pension benefits for teachers. The College believes these laws are unconstitutional and warrant review by the Tribunal. This marks a significant move by the economists to address perceived flaws in Peru’s pension system. They intend to actively utilize the constitutional framework to advocate for changes.
