Six patients have been transferred from the Xai-Xai Provincial Hospital to HCM following allegations of corruption schemes designed to expedite their care. This move occurred after the patients reported illicit charges for medical assistance. Consequently, three of the five hospital employees were detained, accused of demanding illegal fees ranging from 30,000 to 50,000 meticais. The arrests follow complaints about a system where patients were allegedly required to pay bribes to receive timely treatment at the Xai-Xai Provincial Hospital. The incident highlights concerns about corruption within the Mozambican healthcare system. Authorities are investigating the accusations to determine the full extent of the wrongdoing and ensure accountability. This case emphasizes the need for transparency and ethical conduct in healthcare provision in Mozambique.
