A 20-year-old man, Stève Achille Diffo, was brutally murdered in Baloum, located in the West region of Cameroon. Diffo was accused of stealing roofing sheets from a private primary school, though his family and friends maintain his innocence. According to reports, he was detained by local youths and subjected to inhumane treatment in the presence of the superior chief, Charly Constant Noussi. The victim was allegedly beaten, his skull crushed with a stone, and then burned alive using gasoline-soaked tires. Diffo, a professional metallurgical welder, had reportedly denied the accusations throughout the ordeal. His family has since filed formal complaints with the public prosecutors of Dschang and Menoua. The extreme violence of the execution has sparked widespread public indignation. There are growing concerns that the influence of the traditional chief could lead to an attempt to cover up the crime.
