Prosecutors have decided not to pursue charges against the police officer involved in an incident near Utrecht Centraal station in January. The incident began when officers attempted to detain a woman near the “Bollendak” adjacent to the station, and was filmed by a bystander. As officers attempted the arrest, they were impeded by onlookers, leading to a chaotic situation where the officer used a baton and, at one point, kicked a woman while attempting to create space. The officer’s foot became entangled in the woman’s shopping bag, resulting in a struggle, and additional officers used batons and pepper spray. Two individuals, a 23-year-old woman from De Koog and a 39-year-old man from Rotterdam, were ultimately arrested. The Public Prosecutor's Office determined the use of force was proportional and necessary, stating warnings were issued and the individuals resisted arrest. They specifically found the kick to be a justified defensive action to create necessary distance.
