Patuakhali-2 Member of Parliament Shafiqul Islam Masud has expressed concern that equal weighting of written and oral exams in third and fourth-class recruitment tests in Bangladesh is creating opportunities for partisan politics and arbitrariness. He believes this change is shifting the focus from merit-based selection to a quota-based system of governance. Masud argued that prioritizing quotas over merit will negatively impact the country’s administrative processes. The MP made these remarks on Tuesday, September 8th, during the thirteenth session of the National Parliament. He fears the alteration will lead to a decline in qualified candidates and an increase in preferential treatment. Masud’s statements highlight a growing debate surrounding fairness and transparency in Bangladesh's public sector recruitment practices.
